Legal limits, film types, curing, and care — the auto-specific details.
Under Maine motor vehicle standards, tint restrictions vary by window placement. Rear & back side windows: any vehicle not otherwise restricted may feature unlimited dark tint on all glass behind the "B-Post" (directly behind the driver and front-passenger seats), provided the vehicle has dual outside rearview mirrors meeting state inspection requirements — no compliance certificate is needed for glass behind the B-post. Front side windows: glass beside the driver and front-seat passenger must allow at least 35% Light Transmittance after application; the finished glass must register 35% VLT or above on a digital tint meter, and an official compliance certificate must be kept in the vehicle. Windshield: you may apply unlimited dark tint to the very top section down to the factory AS-1 line; if the glass lacks an etched AS-1 mark, tint is restricted to the top 5 inches. No certificate is required for windshield tinting meeting this standard.

No. To ensure maximum performance, optical clarity, and valid warranty coverage, LLumar window films must be installed by a certified professional using specialized climate-controlled equipment and precision cutting techniques.
We recommend keeping your windows fully rolled up for approximately 3 days after installation to allow the adhesive to cure completely. On rare occasions involving specific winter weather, we may advise waiting slightly longer. As a safeguard, our team will place protective reminder tape over your electronic window switches before you leave the shop.
Maintenance is remarkably simple. While window film requires a bit more mindfulness than raw glass, our LLumar coatings are highly scratch-resistant. You can clean your tinted windows safely using common household glass cleaners (ammonia-free recommended), soft cotton cloths, or non-abrasive paper towels. Just avoid scraping the surface with hard, sharp, or metallic objects.
